If you’re spending some days in Vienna, you can’t miss a morning break with a coffee and a slice of Sacher Cake. Bars and cafes are an unforgettable experience, not only under a culinary point of view.  Elegant and sophisticated, both in the décor and in the pastry production, the city centre cafes reflect the ancient tradition of Viennese coffee.
Should I choose 2 of the best and most famous cafes in Vienna, I would say: Hawelka and Demel.

Hawelka, one of the most ancient cafés in Vienna,  is located in the heart of the city at 6, Dorotheergasse . It’s open from 8 am to 2 am, closed on Tuesdays. Opened in 1905, it has been managing by the same family since 1939. Always a meeting point of celebrities, today is the place where journalists, writers, artists and students hang out. The coffee is excellent, as well as sweets and cakes. After 22, don’t forget to try the typical “Buchteln”, freshly baked and filled with cream.

Demel is located in 14, Kohlmarkt, and it’s open from 10am to 7pm. You would easily recognize it by the mountain of cakes at the entrance.  Desserts are simply sublime  – it’s not by chance that it’s considered the best in town. The atmosphere is lovely: mirrors, gilt, crystal chandeliers and elaborate furniture give an unmistakable touch of style. In addition, you could find a  small shop inside, where to buy gastronomic products. What’s better for your friends’ souvenirs?
